Alps MD1000 Printer Print

I purchased a Alps MD1000 Printer on EBay because it will print white.  This works great for printing white letters on clear water slide decals, which I used to label some control panels on my projects.

I found this printer works great for printing negatives to be used for the UV exposure processes.  It does not stretch the transparencies.  It uses dry film so it also doesn't smear and it is very dense.

Musings on printing negatives for UV exposure

There are several ways to print a single negative on a single page of paper. The problem is that the paper is expensive. So I’ve been working to tile several different negatives on a single sheet of paper.

Printers

I have a laser printer, and a color inkjet photo printer. The laser printer produces a better image. But it tend to stretch the image lengthwise about 0.100’ or so. Its inconsistent and I haven’t found a way to compensate for it.

The inkjet prints more dead on. But the ink looks transparent.

The worst thing you can use is transparency film used for project slides. The laser printer always stretches the page lengthwise when it goes through the printer.

1 x Chromaline AccuFast Waterproof Film for Inkjet Printers (Accufast) = $65.00

Pump House Print

When I mention to people that I have a Pump House, I get the strangest looks.  But I have one, and I love it.

One thing that becomes apparent quickly when you have a CNC PCB Mill is the noise.  There is the high speed spindle, and then a vacuum cleaner for dust collection.  If you're using a vacuum table, there is another large vacuum cleanerto provide the suction.  I moved all those items out to the back yard, in my new Pump House.

One vacuum cleaner is loud enough, but two is unbearable.  Some of these boards with 4 mil traces can take 6-8 hours to mill.

Wet Lab Print

I built my own wet lab area out of a bathroom closet in the basement.

I couldn't find a sink to fit, so I make one out of plywood covered in several laters of fiberglass, then top coated like the hull of a boat.

This wet lab also has a heated/shaker water bath, compressed air, vacuum, DC power for plating, electronic tempurture measurements and a decent supply of chemicals.
